Reasons to check it out

  • 18.3K followers and posting new event nights weekly — this is an active, working room, not a listing that's quietly gone dark
  • The name and the 🐻 are the point: this is Baixada Santista's dedicated bear-community room, not a generic gay bar that happens to attract one
  • Runs a real rotation of themed nights — Karaokê Top, Festa da Peruca, a Madonna night, Flashback — instead of one static Friday format
  • Praia Grande's first Near pin, in a Baixada Santista queer-nightlife map that's otherwise been Santos and São Vicente only

Every queer nightlife map has a gap where nobody's checked yet, and on Near's Baixada Santista coverage that gap has been Praia Grande. Canto dos Ursos, a karaoke room in Boqueirão that leans hard into bear-community branding — the name means "Bear's Corner," and the 🐻 shows up everywhere from the Instagram handle to the door — closes it.

What the room actually is

This isn't a generic LGBTQ+ bar that happens to draw a bear crowd; it's built around that specific scene on purpose. The mic is the anchor — karaoke nights run under names like "Karaokê Top" — but the calendar rotates through a real spread of formats rather than repeating the same Friday: "Festa da Peruca" (wig night), a Madonna-themed set, "Flashback" throwback nights, and a running "Canto Viciante" residency. A recent one, "Festa Sem Filtro" (No-Filter Party) on September 1, ran three DJs back to back — João Dias, Edu Pacheco Júnior, and Detzel — for R$30 at the door with a R$15 minimum consumption, the kind of specific, checkable detail that tells you this is a working venue with an actual door policy, not an address someone half-remembers.

It runs Thursday through Sunday, and at 18.3K Instagram followers with posts landing multiple times a week, it's not coasting on old reviews the way plenty of "gay bar" search results for smaller Brazilian beach towns turn out to be — Near checked, and a couple of other Praia Grande leads from the same search pass had gone quiet since 2023. This one hasn't.

Why Praia Grande, and why now

Near's operator lives in Baixada Santista, and the region's queer-nightlife coverage so far has clustered in Santos and São Vicente — Quiosque da Cris's beach kiosk, Cabaret Latino at Teatro Clube da Eskyna, Amuse Beach Club. Praia Grande, the next town down the coast and one of the region's biggest by population, had nothing. A bear-specific room with its own real rotation of themed nights is a stronger opener for that gap than a generic "also gay-friendly" bar would have been — it's a room with an actual identity, not a footnote.

What Near couldn't confirm — and won't guess at

A general web search turned up a claim that the venue's hours had been adjusted while it awaited a city licensing decision. Near went looking for a real source for that — the venue's own channels, the city government's own site — and couldn't find one anywhere traceable. So it's not in this piece. Near would rather leave a detail out than publish something a search engine's own summary asserted without a link behind it. If that changes, or if you've been and the hours on the door don't match what's above, tell Near — that's exactly the kind of correction this page exists to take.

A note on this page: this is Near's first Praia Grande pin. If you've got your own photo of the room, a themed night, or the door, Near wants it, credited to you.
