Most venues put a mission statement on the About page where nobody reads it. Caos put theirs inside the logo.

The wordmark on the venue's own site reads música independente ou morte — independent music or death — hand-lettered at an angle across the second O, like it was scratched on with a marker at 2am. It is a joke and it is also the booking policy, which is the useful thing to know before you walk in.

The address is Rua João Alfredo 701, which is the loud end of Cidade Baixa, Porto Alegre's bar district. The company behind it, Caos Arte Ltda, registered in October 2022, so this is a young room rather than an old one — worth saying plainly, because the venue talks about itself as heir to a 1990s and 2000s Porto Alegre circuit (Garagem Hermética, Sub Jazz, Área 51, Heaven Café) that it did not overlap with.

What actually gets booked

Punk, metal, goth, rave, experimental, and the awkward stuff between them. The house line, per its own site, is a space for música autoral e independente — original, independent music — and acts get screened against a stated line on racism, sexism, homophobia and fascism before they get a slot.

Owner Diego told Cogumelo Media in October 2025 that the place runs as a manifesto rather than a business, and that "o underground é político por natureza" — the underground is political by nature. Take that as a statement of intent rather than a neutral fact, but the programming does back it: Sul 21 covered a Latin American rock festival here in February 2025, which is not a booking anyone makes for the margin.

Then there is the door. Hardcore Contra a Fome has been running since December 2024 and Metal Contra a Fome runs as a co-production with Dominium Prod; on those nights admission is a kilo of food rather than cash. Some bills swap that for cat food. A venue that can only be entered by bringing something is a venue betting its own gate money on the assumption that people will show up anyway, and by all appearances they do.

Going, honestly

Take the calendar from the source. The site's own agenda lists the MPAGA Fest on 20 September 2026, Molho Negro's eighth-anniversary bill with Lo Que Te Voy a Decir and Hibizco on the 25th, Lekhaina and A Origem da Alma on the 26th, and Mulheres de Peso — The Damnnation, Losna and Välika — on the 27th. The one to plan around is 16 October 2026, when São Paulo's Coiote play Porto Alegre for the first time alongside Punkzilla!, Os Torto and Fontorex.

The room is small and low-ceilinged and gets hot. Reviews put a typical night around R$20–40, though prices move and the food-donation nights don't work that way at all. One reviewer in mid-2026 put the caveat well: "depende muito de quem vai" — it depends a lot on who is playing — "mas pra quem gosta do underground e de festas mais obscuras, é um local perfeito." That is the correct expectation. This is not a room that is good in the abstract; it is good on the right night, which is why you check the lineup first.

One current caveat the venue has posted itself: it recently reported an equipment theft and opened a donation page. Sound gear being replaced is the kind of thing that shows up in a mix.

If the appeal here is small independent rooms doing more than one job at once, Teatro Clube da Eskyna in Santos runs the same instinct through theatre and records, and bar Das in São Paulo applies a comparable values-first policy to its door rather than its stage.
