Queens has plenty of queer-friendly bars. It has had, for years, almost no dedicated queer nightlife venue of its own — which is what makes Kween worth the trip out from Manhattan rather than a nice-to-have if you're already in Astoria. It opened May 16, 2022, at 34-10 30th Ave., in the space a Mexican restaurant called Viva Viva used to occupy, owned by longtime Astoria resident Pedro Alvarado.

The room reads as intentional rather than themed: bright pink, softly lit, Mediterranean-and-New-American shareable plates built for a table rather than a solo seat at the bar. The weekend drag brunch (Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4pm) has become the signature booking — it won a 2026 GLAM Award for Best Drag Brunch in NYC, and the reviews back it up as more than a novelty slot.

Loud, and reviewers say so honestly

Late hours are part of the draw — the bar runs to 4am on weekends — and that means Friday and Saturday nights get genuinely loud and packed, a fair trade some reviewers make gladly and others flag if they're after a quiet cocktail. Go earlier in the week, or for brunch, if a conversation matters more than the crowd. Either way, it's the rare Queens room that reads the same way a good neighborhood spot in Manhattan does — built for the people who actually live nearby, not for a night out that happens to pass through.
