Piedmont Avenue is one of Oakland's most walkable commercial strips — restaurants, cafes, a movie theater, independent shops — and at 3758 sits The Lodge, a neighborhood bar that briefly went dark in January 2026 before new owners Chris Cashin and Kris Gordon reopened it that April.
A reopening the neighborhood actually noticed
The turnaround got real local attention. The SF Chronicle covered it twice, and Oaklandside, KRON4 and other Bay Area outlets ran their own pieces on the new ownership — a lot of press for a single neighborhood bar's change of hands, and a sign of how tightly Piedmont Avenue holds onto its regular spots.
The bar kept its name and its room rather than rebranding from scratch, which reads as a deliberate choice: a strip like this rewards continuity over reinvention. It sits within easy walking distance of the rest of the corridor's restaurants and cafes, and a few blocks from the historic Piedmont Theatre, making it an easy stop before or after dinner elsewhere on the avenue.
