A shop this old doesn't need to prove it's still relevant; choosing to get independently audited on how it's actually run suggests it isn't coasting on the address.
None of that requires spending seriously to experience. The shop floor is open to browse, the staff are used to questions from people who aren't buying a case of first-growth Bordeaux, and the honest way in is the front door on St James's Street rather than an appointment — the cheap way into an expensive-sounding institution, which is usually the more interesting one anyway.
