Changes
A São Francisco rock corner that has now reopened twice in a year, on purpose both times.

Reasons to check it out
- Occupies the corner that ran Empório São Francisco until 2018 and Peppers until 2024 — the venue itself calls this a rebirth, not a revival of either
- First opened 10-11 October 2025 with Faichecleres, Dissonantes, Syd Vinicius and Candyman Club; went dark that December
- Reopened a second time on 6 June 2026 after fixing water damage from late-2025 rains, with capacity deliberately cut from 480 to 380
- Named for David Bowie's "Changes"; the same owners run The Bowie in Alto da XV
- R$40–100 a head per Google's own listing (4.4/61); open Thursday to Saturday from 9pm
For a few weeks in early 2026, nobody in Curitiba's own online rock forum could say for sure whether Changes was open. That is not a rhetorical device — it is a real thread, and it is the most useful thing found while checking this venue.
A corner, not a single bar
The address is Rua Presidente Carlos Cavalcanti 1122, São Francisco — a 19th-century corner that ran as Empório São Francisco until 2018 and then as Peppers through May 2024. Changes opened here on 10-11 October 2025 under new owners Bruno Dvorak, Inys Tavares Dvorak and Felipe Alves, who also run The Bowie in Alto da XV — the name is a David Bowie reference on purpose, and co-owner Marcelo França told Band A at the opening that "daqui saíram muitas bandas para o resto do Brasil" — a lot of bands left this corner for the rest of Brazil. Opening weekend booked Faichecleres and Dissonantes on the Friday, Syd Vinicius and Candyman Club on the Saturday, with a beer partnership with local brewery Swamp and a cocktail list by Lukinhas Siqueira, a Cocktail Journey 2015 winner.

What actually happened over the winter
Here is the part press releases don't cover well: a 24 January 2026 thread on r/curitiba asked, in effect, "did Changes fail?" — the original poster had watched a booked show get quietly moved to The Bowie in December and then saw no further listings. The top reply was blunt: "Não vingou o lugar. Está fechado mesmo" — it didn't work out, it's genuinely closed. But a second commenter pushed back the same week: "Eu fui numa monday lá e tava funcionando" — they'd been on a Monday and it was open. Both were partly right, which is the honest read: the room was intermittently dark through the gap, not cleanly shuttered.
Tribuna do Paraná resolved it in May 2026 — the cause was structural water infiltration from heavy rain late in 2025, not a failed concept. The fix took months, not a weekend.

The second reopening, done more carefully
Changes reopened on 6 June 2026 with Relespública and Anacrônica, per Bora Curitiba, and this time the changes are structural rather than cosmetic: capacity cut from 480 to 380 "to prioritize comfort and circulation," a new flooring and deck, a beer partner swap from Swamp to Bastards (with alcohol-free and gluten-free options now on tap), an expanded burger-and-shareables menu, and an explicit lean toward a 35-and-older crowd. Google's own listing puts the room at 4.4 stars from 61 reviews and R$40–100 a person — one reviewer's complaint about a Christmas-night ticket mix-up from before the closure is the kind of specific gripe worth knowing about even if it predates the current owners' fixes.
Whether the second version holds is the open question any local checking-in would ask before a Friday night out — which is exactly the question the corner itself has now answered twice.
For the same instinct applied to an older, uninterrupted Curitiba room, Caos Bar in Porto Alegre runs a comparable independent-booking policy two states over.
