Reasons to check it out

  • No cover charge, no dress code β€” rare on a strip built around both
  • Pool tables and sports on TV give it a sports-bar feel most WeHo nightlife doesn't bother with
  • Run by brothers Waldo and Hector Omar Duarte since 2021, who took over with a deliberate promise: no changes
  • 4.4 stars across 469 Google reviews β€” high volume, consistently positive, for a bar this unpretentious

β€œEvery other block on Santa Monica Blvd is selling you a look. Trunks just sells you a pool table and a strong drink, and that's the whole pitch.”

β€” STEFAN

Trunks has been on Santa Monica Boulevard for 35 years, and it reads like it: pool tables, sports on the TVs, a crowd that skews older and regular rather than dressed for a door. There's no cover charge and no dress code, which on this particular strip counts as a genuine point of difference β€” most of WeHo's nightlife is built around exactly those two filters.

No changes, on purpose

Longtime owner Bill Holland ran the bar until his death in Palm Springs; brothers Waldo Duarte and Hector Omar Duarte took over in 2021 and were explicit about their plan, as WEHOonline reported: keep it exactly as it was. That's unusual as a business decision and it shows in the room β€” a 2026 WEHOonline readers' poll still ranks Trunks among the city's best dive bars, the same category it's always run in rather than chasing a rebrand.

What recent visitors actually say

Google's 469 reviews put it at 4.4 stars, and recent ones are specific. One visitor, three months before this writing, called a night there "electric." Reviews aren't uniform: one regular, a month ago, described an $89 tab for two margaritas and three shots with no warning about the pour; another flagged a rude bartender over water. Worth knowing, not a dealbreaker on a bar whose appeal is unfussiness. A mile east, Bar Lubitsch goes the opposite way: Russian theming, weekly comedy.
